It is so nice when you are going through a new experience, for someone to come along side you and say "I've been there too". Although no one quite could experience what Mary went through, Elizabeth came close.
Elizabeth was past the age of having children when she became pregnant with John. She hid the pregnancy from folk for 5 months. I wonder if it was just so she could try to figure things out.
Mary was told by the angel that she would conceive a son, even though she had never been with a man. Mary was engaged to be married. This would not look good. She would be God's handmaid, but she needed time too... to think about all that was happening.
These two ladies, then find each other... and what a joyful meeting. What blessings Elizabeth experienced in having John leap within her. The Holy Spirit was at work announcing Jesus' mommy to her. Meeting Elizabeth this way, I am sure, encouraged Mary to praise the Lord for this amazing privilege.
This is what Church does for us... We build each other's faith by attending and worshiping and learning together. Think about this this Sunday.
*Action* - Starting today... give a gift to someone each day... the gift of encouragement. Let's plan out the first chance we have to practice this together...
